I read a great article titled in USATODAY titled, ”Several Options can Help if You’re Struggling to pay Student Loans.” The autor, Sandra Block, describes deferment, forbearance, and income-based repayment. The most suprising statement in this article is, “There’s no statute of limitations on collection of federal student loans, Reiter adds, which means the government can go after you for the rest of your life.” Hit the hotlink to read the entire article:

Internship Opportunities Sought for Summer 2010 Undergraduate Scholars

NOAA Office of Education (OEd) is seeking NOAA offices and programs nationwide to host Undergraduate Scholarship recipients in the Educational Partnership Program (EPP) and Hollings Scholarship Program. Internship opportunities are sought for 150 scholarship recipients to participate in a 10-week OEd paid internship in NOAA mission-related research, technological, policy, management, and education activities, beginning June 1, 2010.

Host offices are requested to identify a discrete project that the undergraduate scholar can complete within a 10-week timeframe. To access the on-line Student Scholarship Internship Opportunity form, go to https://ssio.iso.noaa.gov or to http://www.oesd.noaa.gov/Hollings_info.html or http://www.epp.noaa.gov and click on the Student Scholarship Internship Opportunity (SSIO). Completed forms must be submitted in the on-line system by Friday, 9 October, 2009.

Undergraduate scholars are U.S. citizens and full-time undergraduate students majoring in NOAA mission-related disciplines, including, but not limited to, oceanic, environmental, and atmospheric sciences, mathematics, engineering, remote sensing technology, physical and social sciences including, geography, physics, hydrology, and teacher education.

Scholarship recipients receive an OEd-funded award that includes academic assistance, a 10-week paid internship, housing assistance, conference travel, and round-trip travel to the internship site.

The NOAA OEd Undergraduate Scholarship Programs provide NOAA with a valuable mechanism to help realize the vision and achieve the goals of the NOAA Strategic Plan. The Undergraduate Scholarship Programs also support NOAA’s cross-cutting priorities of promoting environmental literacy and developing, valuing, and sustaining a world-class workforce.

CCleaner – PC Registry Cleaner and More

I recently noticed my computer was running Windows XP slower and slower. This was somewhat puzzling considering I had McAfee cranked up to prevent any viruses, spyware, and popups and I hadn’t dowloaded or installed any heavy RAM-using programs. A friend of mine mentioned perhaps I had a corrupt registry. So, after a little research, I found a freeware program called CCleaner. http://www.ccleaner.com/

I downloaded it and selected the registry cleaner button. It listed thousands of registry entries including some corrupted entries. I chose to have them removed and CCleaner did the trick. My PC is running as fast as it ever did. I recommend CCleaner to anyone with possible PC performance issues. Download it, try it, and let me know the outcome.

What is a Whuffie?

The Whuffie Factor is a book my son picked up at the library. I Googled the term and found the following passage: “Everyone knows about blogs and social networks such as Facebook and Twitter. And they’ve heard about someone who has used them to grow a huge customer base. Everyone wants to be hands-on, grass roots and interactive. But what does this mean? It is an easy read. I’ve read about 80 pages and I like the message so far. I’ll post more on this book when I’m through reading it.
